The base station falls under the category of “temperature-based methods” and is therefore generally eligible for funding in Germany. However, its use does not exempt from complying with the basic requirements for hydraulic balancing. The base station cannot influence parts of the pipe network upstream of the distribution manifold.
As described under point 8.05 of the German BEG minimum technical requirements, the system takes effect from the transfer device. Hydraulic balancing is a consideration of the entire system, which is why all parts of the pipe network upstream of the transfer device must also meet the requirements for hydraulic balancing in accordance with procedure B.
Hydraulic balancing must be confirmed using the German VdZ form.
Important note on eligibility as of 02/2026: #
Hydraulic balancing using a temperature-based method with the Alpha direct Balance, Balance Switch/Modbus, Alpha Smartware Standard and Premium products is currently not eligible for BEG funding.
Customers currently only receive BEG funding for the purchase price of the products, however, hydraulic balancing is only eligible for funding if it is carried out and verified in accordance with Procedure B. Only with new certification from TÜV Rheinland will it be possible again to promote hydraulic balancing using alternative temperature-based methods.
The background to this is the checklist jointly published in 2025 by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). This checklist aims to provide transparency regarding the requirements that alternative hydraulic balancing methods must meet in order to be recognised as equivalent under the Federal Subsidy Programme for Efficient Buildings (BEG).
The checklist lists requirements that differ from the content of the previous certification by TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service Group. Therefore, these certificates can no longer be maintained in their current form. This applies at least in the context of BEG funding.
We are currently striving for recertification in accordance with the checklist as a matter of utmost priority.
